According to Celebrity Net Worth, Floyd Mayweather’s net worth is $450 million making him the wealthiest boxer in the history of boxing.

At the time of writing this piece, his aggregate earnings over the course of his career were $1.1 billion which makes him the fifth highest-paid athlete in history and one of those six athletes who touched earnings of $1.1 billion throughout their career.

Early Life

Born on February 24, 1977, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in a family of boxers. Floyd Mayweather Sr. was his father who is an ex-welterweight competitor. He was born with his mother’s surname but soon after his last name was altered to Mayweather.

Before dropping out, Mayweather attended Ottawa Hills High School. Since his childhood, boxing has been a part of his life and hence he just never had a thought of pursuing a career in any other thing.

He stated “I think my grandmother saw my potential first,” adding “When I was young, I told her, ‘I think I should get a job.’ She said, ‘No, just keep boxing.'”

In a statement, he also said “When I was about eight or nine, I lived in New Jersey with my mother and we were seven deep in one bedroom and sometimes we didn’t have electricity. When people see what I have now, they have no idea of where I came from and how I didn’t have anything growing up.”

Returning from school and finding used heroin needles was quite usual for him as his mom was a drug addict. His childhood wasn’t easy for him at all. He said, “People don’t know the hell I’ve been through.” 

In fact, the time that he spent with his dad was either taking him to the gym to train him for boxing. He said “I don’t remember him ever taking me anywhere or doing anything that a father would do with a son, going to the park or to the movies or to get ice cream,” adding “I always thought that he liked his daughter better than he liked me because she never got whippings and I got whippings all the time.”

Personal Life

Mayweather stays in Las Vegas, Nevada where he has his custom-built massive mansion of 22,000-square-foot that consists of 5 bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

Mayweather had an amateur record of 84 wins against just 8 losses. He is also the winner of three national Golden Gloves championships: in 1993 at 106 lb, the following year at 114 lb, and 1996 at 125 lb. His amateur fellow mates gave him the nickname of “pretty boy.” 

He was a recipient of a bronze medal at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta after he reached the semi-finals of the featherweight division.

On March 13, 2009, he was expected to fight with the strongest competitor of his career, Manny Pacquiao and that was possibly the most awaited bout in the past ten years. During that time, pay-per-view (PPV) revenues were anticipated to surpass $180 million.
