The author of The Kingkiller Chronicles trilogy, Patrick Rothfuss, has agreed to recite the prologue of his highly anticipated new book, The Doors of Stone, on the condition that admirers of his work collect an exact amount of money for the charity WorldBuilders, which he founded.

Fortunately for us, the sum was achieved some time ago, and as promised, he read the prologue!

Reading a prologue serves no purpose other than to console the reader. Rothfuss, the book’s author, stated on his website, “What is a prologue?” This is only a teaser.

A smidgeon of flavor and an extra chapter. The prologue is scarcely discernible as a bite—a brief excerpt from the narrative for readers looking for a taste of something new.

However, given that people have anticipated this novel for over a decade, this little piece will suffice.

What Did the Prologue Comprise?

After hearing the prologue, we can tell it is not unlike the intros of the two previous volumes, The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear. Indeed, we can observe that the prologue is similarly titled “A Silence in Three Parts.

As is customary in the inn of Waystone, we witness the famous magician Kvothe begin to explain his story in this prologue. Numerous sentences are identical to those found in the preceding two novels.

On the other hand, we discover fresh metaphors and descriptions that suggest the author’s creative thought. The prologue is free-flowing, akin to musical poetry. You may find it rather amusing as you read it.

The prologue appears to be more descriptive of the town of Newarre than it is of the protagonist Kvothe.

Thus, Rothfuss observed that this was not awful upon completing the reading. You might argue that he was charitable to himself, given that the prologue he read was terrific. It is reasonable for Rothfuss to set a relatively high bar for himself.

Additionally, it would be best if you were relieved to learn that this prologue is not all the stuff we will receive from Rothfuss. He stated that he would disclose an entire chapter of his upcoming book, The Doors of Stone, for a 333000 USD donation to his organization WorldBuilders.

And the quota was quickly met! As promised, Rothfuss has stated that the chapter would be released shortly, maybe alongside an audiobook version.

Finally, Rothfuss has announced that the tenth-anniversary edition of his earlier novel Wise Man’s Fear would be released shortly. However, the book’s tenth anniversary has passed. As for the delay, Rothfuss cited the same explanation last year.
