Diana Prince will officially return to the big screen for a third installment of the “Wonder Woman” film series.
Warner Bros. has accelerated development on a new edition in the DC Comics series. Gal Gadot returned to act as the titular heroine, and Patty Jenkins returned to write and direct the third and final episode in the superhero trilogy.
On the heels of “Wonder Woman 1984,” the studio’s superhero sequel, which premiered on the company’s streaming platform and in select movie theatres on Christmas Day, the studio has made the news.
Warner Bros. has confirmed that the third “Wonder Woman” film will be released in a traditional theatre setting.
In a statement, Warner Bros. president Toby Emmerich said, “As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince and drive the strong opening weekend performance of ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ we are thrilled to be able to proceed her story with our real-life Wonder Women — Gal and Patty — who will come back to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy.”
Although many people chose to watch “Wonder Woman 1984” at home, the film nonetheless managed to produce unusually strong ticket sales – at least in comparison to the pandemic’s circumstances. “Wonder Woman 1984” earned $16.7 million in its first weekend of release from 2,100 cinemas throughout North America, making it the greatest opening weekend in the coronavirus period.

According to the studio, HBO Max viewers accounted for roughly half of the platform’s retail customers on Friday, with millions more streaming the film through cable or cellular access.
HBO Max, which began in May and had 12.6 million active members as early December, was the most popular streaming service globally.
Andy Forssell, president of WarnerMedia’s direct-to-consumer business, said that “Wonder Woman 1984” broke records and exceeded expectations across all of its essential viewing and subscriber metrics in its first 24 hours on the service.
The interest and momentum the company is seeing indicate that this will likely continue well beyond the weekend. “During these terrible times, it was wonderful to provide families with the choice of watching this inspiring film at home instead than at a theatre,” said the director.
There is no information about the last part of the “Wonder Woman” trilogy. With Kristen Wiig as the wicked Cheetah, Pedro Pascal as the obnoxious tycoon Max Lord, and Chris Pine as Diana’s love interest, Steve Trevor, the sequel to the critically acclaimed first film was released in theatres on December 20, 2009.
Another question mark surrounds the production schedule for “Wonder Woman 3.” “Cleopatra,” starring Gadot and Jenkins, is now in production at Paramount. The story of the mythical queen of Egypt is told in this historic play.
The next appearance of Gadot’s Wonder Woman will be in Zack Snyder’s four-part version of “Justice League,” which will air on HBO Max in 2021.
Jenkins is also poised to helm a new “Star Wars” film, “Rogue Squadron,” released in December. The picture, scheduled to be released around Christmas 2023, will follow a group of pilots in a galaxy far, far away.
