Capcom revealed Tuesday during a Livestream presentation that the Sunbreak expansion for Monster Hunter Rise would come on June 30 for Nintendo Switch and Windows PC. The DLC will have a new plot, a new setting, new creatures to fight, and new Master Rank-challenge missions.
The standard edition of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak will cost $39.99, while the deluxe edition will cost $49.99 and include multilayer armor sets, gestures, and hairstyles.
Capcom has advised Monster Hunter Rise gamers to require around 13 GB of storage space to accommodate a Sunbreak-themed software upgrade.
Capcom debuted several new and returning monsters during Tuesday’s stream, including the Fanged Beast Garangolm, which attacks with both fire and water elements; the Fanged Wyvern Lunagaron, which coats its body in ice to serve as body armor; the Blood Orange Bishaten, which, while delicious-sounding, throws exploding pine cones; and Astalos, the returning Flying Wyvern with the ability to generate electricity to power its attacks.
Players will face off against these beasts in Sunbreak’s new Citadel, as well as in the surrounding woods and mountains.
Additionally, the publisher demonstrated the new Elgado Outpost hub, which features a canteen, command post, and a variety of NPCs, merchants, and task givers.

Monster Hunter Rise is scheduled to launch on the Nintendo Switch in March 2021 and on PC in January. In our initial Rising review, we lauded the game’s increased mobility, facilitated by the new Wirebug, and approachability for newbies.
“Creature Hunter Rise builds on Capcom’s approachable base established in World without jeopardizing what makes Monster Hunter so enjoyable, including the complex combat and the sense of progression as you beat, skin, and wear one monster before fighting the next,” reviewer Ryan Gilliam said.
“If World ushered in a new age of Monster Hunter, Rise propels it ahead even more.”
