Introduction to the Show
The Gilded Age has been renewed early for season 2 at HBO according to the report by Variety.
The show which is made by Downton Abbey maker Julian Fellowes has streamed only three episodes till now with the fourth slated to release tonight on the premium channel and its streamer HBO Max. The first season has nine episodes.
About the Plot and Central Characters
Set in 1882 New York City, the show follows many interlinked plotlines about the dispute between old and new money in the said economically prosperous time.
Among them, young Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) relocates from rural Pennsylvania to New York City following the demise of her father to stay with her very old aunts named Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) and Ada Brook (Cynthia Nixon).
Along with Peggy Scott (Denée Benton), who dreams to be a writer wishing for a new start, Marian unintentionally becomes involved in a social battle between one of her aunts and her new money neighbors, a hard-hearted railroad magnate and its difficult wife, George (Morgan Spector) and Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon).
Cast, Crew, and the Production Team
Francesca Orsi, who is the executive vice president of HBO Programming said that Julian Fellowes and the whole Gilded Age crew have thoroughly captured the audience with their story of late 19th century New York City magnificence. Along with their partners at Universal Television, he said that they were proud to set off a journey of a second season with his amazingly skillful crew.
Other cast members for Season 1 are Ben Ahlers, Michael Cerveris, Kelly Curran, Claybourne Elder, Linda Emond, Katie Finneran, Amy Forsyth, Michel Gill, Ward Horton, Bill Irwin, Sullivan Jones, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Nathan Lane, Audra McDonald, Debra Monk, Donna Murphy, Kristine Nielsen, Kelli O’Hara, Patrick Page, Taylor Richardson, Douglas Sills, John Douglas Thompson, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Erin Wilhelmi.
Fellowes made the show and is the writer and executive producer. Sonja Warfield has a similar role. The directors for the series are Michael Engler and Salli Richardson-Whitfield, with the former also an executive producer.
Gareth Neame, David Crockett, and Bob Greenblatt are also executive producers. Erica Dunbar is a co-executive producer. The show is co-produced by HBO and Universal Television.

The president of Universal Television, Erin Underhill said that the starting season of The Gilded Age is the commencement of a long story that introduced an interesting world full of engaging characters.

He also commended the range of Julian’s imagination as ambitious and that they are excited to discover the depths of this amazing era with HBO. The show has had a long road to the screen, with it first being told that Fellowes was working on the show from 2012. It was actually set up at NBC before switching to HBO in 2019.
