When Cheer premiered on Netflix in January 2020, it was an immediate hit. The six-episode series about Corsicana, Texas, Navarro College Bulldogs cheer squad and its coach Monica Aldama, attracted the thoughts of the viewers, like the dispute over the treatment of the sport. With such an immense response to the first season, a season 2 of Cheer was certain and it is going to release sooner than you imagine.
But since the release of the docuseries, one of its major stars, Jerry Harris, has undergone legal problems. The cheerleader, who was known for his motivating and over-the-top “mat talks”, looked set to mould his appearance on the Netflix series into actual fame with a proposal to join Ellen as a correspondent. But in September 2020, Harris was booked by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on a child pornography accusation.
His spokesperson refused to accept the charges on the behalf of Harris. Later that year, Harris was alleged of more charges linked to child prostitution and pornography, according to the New York Times. Harris pleaded not guilty to his allegations in December 2020. The allegations have since drawn curtains on the hype surrounding Cheer.
Considering the magnitude of the accusations, they could have altogether obstructed the second season. However, according to reports from Netflix, the upcoming season will deal with the allegations against Harris directly. Here is what else about Cheer Season 2.
